Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) say the Commission’s doors are open to any qualified person or group of persons who wish to be recruited as registration officers for the upcoming biometric voter registration exercise.Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Commission, Mrs. Sylvia Annor, told Adom News, the EC welcomes the offer from the Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG) to be used as registration officers for the exercise if teachers will not be available.The UGAG in a press statement signed by its President, Justice Kojo Antwi said considering the of unemployed graduates - which is over 65,000 - the EC can fall on UGAG in the wake of the decision by the Ghana Education Service not to release teachers for the impending exercise.The statement said members of UGAG were non-partisan and as such were the best persons for the job.The GES stated last week that it will not be releasing teachers for the Biometric registration exercise citing disruptions in the academic calendar.According to Mrs Sylvia Annor, the EC had already recruited people for the registration exercise before the GES’ release but stated that if the UGAG formally applies for the job, its members will be taken through the necessary processes and qualified candidates will be selected.Meanwhile the National Youth Authority (NYA) has also called on the UGAG to formally channel their request through the NYA so it can in turn engage the EC on their behalf.Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Mrs. Sedinam Tamakloe-Ationu advised UGAG to visit the NYA’s website and register or better still petition the NYA.In a related development, the Electoral Commission (EC) says it is analyzing various concerns that came up during the piloting of the biometric registration last weekend to ascertain the necessary steps that need to be taken to enhance the main exercise which begins on 24th March, 2012.According to Mrs Sylvia Annor, the Commission will come out early next week to name problems encountered during the pilot and how they have been addressed.
