The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, Nana Akomea says the high cost of living is killing Ghanaians, a situation he attributed to the failure of President Mills to deliver on his better Ghana promise to Ghanaians. Speaking on the floor of Parliament Wednesday, the Okaikwei South MP said the success story of inflation being preached by the NDC government is irrelevant as it is not reflecting in the pockets of Ghanaians. He indicated that parents are unable to pay their wards fees, rent has increased by 200 percent in some areas, such as in the Ledzokuku constituency where he said rent which used to be GH¢10 during the NPP regime has shot up to GH¢ 30 under the NDC administration. Touching on employment, Nana Akomea said that the high rate of unemployment recorded in recent times is the biggest challenge facing the country. According to him there is no blue print on employment policies to serve as guidelines to solve the problem. The MP for North Dayi, Akua Sena Dansua however disagreed with Nana Akomea’s statement about the lack of a blue print and indicated that the blue print is under consideration by the President at the Castle. Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu also disagreed with an assertion made by the Minority in Parliament that the economy is on the verge of a breakdown. According to him, the macroeconomic indicators show stability in the economy. In another development, the MP for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Richad Anane called on government to promptly release funds to contractors since the delays in the release of funds is coming at a cost to the nation. He said the early release of funds will also enable contractors complete their projects on schedule.
