The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra Most Rev. Charles Palmer Buckle has joined the increasing number of campaigns aimed at preaching peace ahead of the December polls with the launch of an elections education campaign poster aimed at fostering peace during and after the upcoming elections. Speaking at the launch, Most Rev. Palmer Buckle exhorted Ghanaians to be confident of success since the country has already been to the polls five times since 1992 which has made the citizens very acquitted with the process. He said Ghana has become the beacon of Africa as a country of peace and democracy thus all eyes are on Ghana to see how we perform a sixth time round. The poster which has the theme “Vote for Ghana” is aimed at encouraging Ghanaians to first think of Ghana before any other political party. Executive Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs, Jean Mensa who chaired the launch reiterated the need for both losers and winners in the upcoming elections to gracefully accept the results. She also called on Parliament to approve the presidential transition bill before December to ensure a smooth transition if need be. Samuel Zan Akologo, Executive Secretary of the Department of Human Resources said the poster was outdoored to solicit public support in the quest for peaceful elections. The posters being used as a tool for peace is a collaborative effort between the Ghana Catholic Bishops’, Star Ghana and Catholic Relief Services.
