University students are becoming increasingly worried about the impact of incessant strikes on the academic calendar, the latest being the industrial action announced by the University Teachers Association on Thursday. The lecturers are withdrawing their services from because they say the government has failed to pay them their ten months salary arrears despite several assurances. UTAG President, Dr. Anthony Simons has told Joy News they will not return to the classroom until the arrears are paid. Students on the university campuses are already dreading the workload they would have to deal with when the lecturers eventually return after their issues are resolved. Students on the Wa campus of the University of Development Studies and their colleagues at the University of Ghana have similar concerns say the workload become a huge burden under such circumstances. The university lecturers are not the only ones withdrawing their services as their colleagues in the polytechnics have since Monday declared an indefinite strike to protest their delayed migration onto the single spine pay policy.
