180,000 candidates from selected Junior High schools across the country will be writing a mock examination aimed at enhancing the performance and confidence of students from schools that performed poorly in last year’s BECE.The move, an initiative of Global Education Enhancement Ventures (GLEEV) will take place on Monday April 2.Education Minister, Lee Ocran intimated that investigations into students’ poor performance revealed that most of the candidates who performed poorly were from the rural areas and were found to be inadequately prepared for the examination.The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is funding the project which costs GH¢ 1,260,000.00.Sector minister, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, lauded the initiative and expressed the hope it would reverse the negative trend.The Acting Director of the National Centre for Research into Basic Education (NCRIBE) of the University of Education, Winneba, Dr. Richard Ofori, said the Centre would assess the impact of the project including reliability and validity of the questionnaire.
