A 17-year-old girl who sought refuge at the Gambaga witches camp in the Northern region after being banished from her community for her exceptional intelligence has been rescued by the Women and Children’s Affairs Ministry.
The Senior High School student was accused of taking the brains of her less intelligent colleagues to excel in school.
She sought refuge at the witches camp to escape harm from members of her community.
Deputy Women and Children’s Affairs Minister, Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba, who spoke to Joy FM on the Super Morning Show Monday, said the girl has been reunited with her family.
She stated that the ministry has been working hard to secure a transfer for the victim to another school.
The minister added that plans are being drawn to educate folks in the vicinity to change their mindset about such matters.
Meanwhile, Cosmos School Limited in Accra has pledged to grant the victim a scholarship if the ministry will be able to find her accommodation in the capital.
