The headmaster of the Wa Methodist School for the blind, Mr. Samson Akrugu has on behalf of special schools in the country appealed to the government for the early release of feeding grants meant for the special schools. Mr. Samson made the appeal at the commissioning of a sixteen thousand cedi mechanized borehole for the school at Wa. The borehole was drilled for the school following joy news report on the acute water shortage that has bedeviled the school. Moneygram International and their partners paid for the entire cost of the mechanized bore hole. Mr. Akrugu said the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and that of the Ministry Education should have sympathy for special school. ‘‘They should have sympathy with the special schools, release our feeding grants and increments on time as we go to the same market with the senior high schools, our suppliers are on us for their money,” he stated The Wa Methodist school headmaster also appealed to the government to renovate the school’s assembly hall complex which was gutted by fire last year. ‘‘We need it badly for our indoor games, physical education and for our other social activities’’, he added. The senior prefect of the school, Ebenezer Agetba thanked Moneygram international and the Multimedia group especially Joy Fm for letting the world hear and know about their plight. Master Agetba said the population of the school is increasing in leaps and bounds and called for more infrastructure for the school. He said items for the blind are very expensive and mostly imported. In this regard, he appealed to the government and benevolent organizations to help them get the needed items for their studies. The marketing executive of Moneygram international Anglophone West Africa, Kofi Akyea was ecstatic about the completion of the project stating that the project is part of the company’s policy of giving back to society what they have taken from them. Mr. Akyea said he was touched and moved with what he saw at the school and it is his believe that the provision of the mechanized borehole will help cut the number of hours used to look for water.
