The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr. Ignatius Baffour Awuah has commended the Dormaa Traditional Council for maintaining the relative peace among communities in the Dormaa District.
The Regional Minister, who was speaking at a mini-durbar held by the Council at Dormaahene’s palace at Dormaa Ahenkro to commemorate a special harvest and merry-making festival, ‘Munukuo’ therefore called on other traditional councils within the region to emulate Dormaa.
Mr. Baffour-Awuah said the Brong-Ahafo Region can take a giant leap towards accelerated socio-economic advancement if such relative peace could prevail in all traditional areas in addition to the effective harnessing of the region’s numerous human, natural and agricultural resources.
The Regional Minister called on all custodians of the nation’s rich cultures to expose their values to the youth, which he said were being gradually submerged by foreign cultures.
He commended the efforts of the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II in choosing the cause of peace and tranquility for his people. The Dormaahene Oseagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II traced the migration of his ancestors to a row in the 1640s over the choice of the late King Sasraku’s successor in Akwamu which is now in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
He said the tussle culminated in the fragmentation and trekking of his people through the present day Ashanti Region and Ivory Cote d’Ivoire before their settlement at their present destination.
Touching on the significance of the mini-durbar, the Gyaasehene of the Dormaa Traditional Council Barimah Oppong Yaw Boabasa Ababio explained that Munukuo was a merry-making day set aside by the traditional fraternity to herald the new yam and also pay homage to their ancestors for paving the way for the new harvest.
The Dormaa District Chief Executive, Squadron Leader Ben Anane Asamoah assured the Council that the assembly was doing all it could to spread development projects evenly to the benefit of all in the district.
Highlights of the durbar included the presentation of the trophy won by the Aduana Stars Football team recently at the Kasapreko Opeimu Top-Four Regional tournament played in Sunyani to the Dormaahene by officials and players of the team and the award of ten 21-inch colour television sets to six players of the team and four chiefs who have excelled in the discharge of their duties.Source: GNA
