The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Mpohor Wassa East District, Mr Edward Tawaih-Amprofi, has said the district could overcome its financial inadequacies, if it is able to increase its internally generated funds (IGF).
He said the negative perception that the IGF is misused by the various district assemblies must change.
Mr. Tawiah-Amprofi hinted that the assembly would begin collecting property rates and would also intensify its revenue collection.
Mr. Tawiah-Amprofi said these during the commissioning of a GH¢17,700 (177 million cedis) double cabin KIA pickup van for the monitoring of projects in the district at Daboase on Wednesday.
Mr. Amprofi said the assembly purchased the van with funds from its Stool Land Revenue (SLR) for last year.
He said though the revenue is not enough the assembly has over the years managed to invest in schools, community centres and had also purchased a Benz bus from the same source.
Mr. Tawiah-Amprofi said the SLR constituted only 30 percent of the IGF of the assembly.
He said the assembly constructed a GH¢31,000 (310 million cedis) three-unit classroom block at Adum Banso, purchased a Benz bus at GH¢7,000 (70 million cedis) and the construction of a community centre at Mamponso.
Nana Kojo Akye II, Chief of Daboase appealed to all chiefs and opinion leaders to support their unit committees, revenue collectors and assist the assemblies to raise the required revenue.
He also appealed to chiefs to use part of the 20 percent of the stool land revenues to improve the lives of their respective communities.
