The Ghana Association of University Administrators has revealed that they are not returning to work anytime soon after being unable to reach an agreement with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) in a meeting held Friday. The strike which is about a week old has disrupted administrative, health and security services on the various public universities in the country. The striking administrators are yet to give any consideration to a petition by the Vice Chancellors of Ghana. According to the President of the Ghana Association of University Administrators, Joseph Gordon Mensah, their group is disappointed that the meeting with FWSC to resolve the impasse. Gordon Mensah added that although the meeting was fruitful the FWSC did not offer them a much improved deal which matched the market premium. The Head of Grievances and Administration at the FWSC, Cornelius Yawson in an interview with Joy FM accused the university administrators of breaching principles of negotiation in which both parties were supposed to keep the outcome from the media. He said although the university administrators' strike is illegal, the FWSC has watered down its stance and are negotiating a deal with them to ensure that they get back to work as soon as possible. The administrators declared an indefinite strike last Tuesday to protest delays in their migration onto the single spine salary structure. They have accused the FWSC of unfair treatment.
