President John Evans Atta Mills has lauded the contribution of non-governmental organizations for complementing government’s effort towards the attainment of literacy goals under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
President Mills specifically singled-out Lifelink Friendship Schools Ghana, the local arm of the Sweden-based child-friendly organization dedicated to child grooming on international issues.
The President made the comments when he granted audience to Ghana’s child delegates to this year’s Model United Nations Conference in Washington DC on the sidelines of his recent working visit to the United States of America.
The 15-member delegation attended the Middle School Model United Nations session hosted by the US State Department.
The conference, an annual event, mocked United Nations diplomats on a wide range of global issues including health, security and disarmament.
President Mills wished the delegates well and hoped their active involvement in the global contest will bring more honours to the image of the country.
The President later told the Executive Director of Lifelink Friendship Schools Ghana, Ernest Gyimah-Danquah government was impressed with the success of the Model United Nations Project so far, considering the fact that it has brought several honours to the nation.
He said government will do anything within its ambit to ensure the success and sustenance of the programme to benefit many children including those in deprived communities.
The Executive Director of Lifelink Friendship Schools, Ernest Gyimah-Danquah was grateful to President Mills for his support.
