The man at the centre of the judgement debt controversy is angry over suggestions he is colluding with the prosecution to stall his trial. Alfred Agbesi Woyome says he is convinced he is innocent of the charges of fraud leveled against him and will play no role at all to stall legal processes against him. He issued the reaction in a statement following accusations by pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) that the prosecution is deliberately stalling the process to free him. The case has been adjourned a number of times, occasioned by the prosecution's plea for more time to complete investigations. AFAG stated at a press conference on Wednesday, if the case is adjourned again at the next hearing they will adopt all legal remedies including mass protests to ensure that the state recovers its money from Woyome. The pressure group is convinced the feet-dragging is only a convenient tactic being employed by the government to cover-up what they say is the fraudulent GH¢51 million judgement debt paid to Woyome. But Woyome, who is also a financier of the ruling party disagrees and issued the statement to back his conviction. His spokesperson Kwame Tawia told Joy News it is unimaginable and highly unacceptable for any group to suggest that Woyome is colluding with the prosecution to stall the trial. He said delays in court processes have always been part of Ghana’s legal system and wondered why AFAG will “waste their time” with a press conference. Tawia insisted Woyome has submitted to the processes and would be vindicated at the end.
