The Police Administration has given two policemen who were on duty at the Anloga Police Station on Thursday to produce seven fugitives or face sanctions.
It has also set up a committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the escape of the suspects and come out with appropriate sanctions for the dereliction of duty on the part of the offices within one week.
The prime suspect in the Woe arson case and six other suspects on Thursday broke out of lawful custody at the Anloga Police Station in the Volta Region.
The Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Alhaji Hamid Mahama could not however give the actual punishment to be meted out to the police officers.
“The police administration has its code of discipline and will apply such sanctions if the policemen are found capable of the offence,” he said.
However, the police administration has beefed up security in the area with the deployment of new policemen.
The Assembly Member for Lagbati Electoral Area at Anloga where the incident occurred, Mr Prosper Afealete made a passionate appeal to the people of the area to co-operate with the police to re-arrest the fugitives.
Sherry Kudzinawo, the prime suspect and the other fugitives were said to have used an instrument believed to be a hacksaw to cut the iron bar at the back of the window of the police cell to escape.
A source at Anloga said that only one policeman was on duty at the time of the jailbreak.
He said when the policeman on duty opened the cells the following morning; he found that none of the inmates was in the cells.
