Vice President, John Dramani Mahama has appealed to the Chiefs and people of the Effutu Traditional area in the Central Region to unite and live in harmony to ensure better development for the area.
Congratulating the indigenes of the traditional area for having restored peace after a protracted chieftaincy dispute, the Vice President noted there can be no development without peace.
Speaking at a grand durbar of chiefs and people at Winneba to climax this year’s Aboakyir Festival, Mr. Mahama said even though government does not desire to meddle in chieftaincy issues, it will not relent on its duty of ensuring peace across the country.
Mr. Mahama who was attending the festival for the first time also congratulated the chiefs and people for a successful festival this year.
He said a number of infrastructural developments were ongoing in the area including the siting of a modern landing site at Winneba and also applauded the fisher folk for taking over the management of the pre-mix fuel, a commodity whose management and disbursement has been a source of worry for beneficiaries.
Touching on the December elections, the Vice President appealed to Ghanaians to give President Mills and the NDC a second chance to complete major developmental projects in the country.
Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe, urged the various factions in the area to close their ranks to promote development.
The durbar was attended by a cross section of Ghanaians including natives of Winneba, both home and abroad, diplomats, several government officials and the Member of Parliament for the area, Mike Hammah.
