The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, Florence Dennis has highlighted the need to tighten the nation’s policies to ensure the interest of the public is always supreme. Doing so, she said, will ensure people do not take advantage of weaknesses in policies to pilfer the nation's resources. The anti-corruption campaigner was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Wednesday, reacting to a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed claims of abuse of office and corruption brought against New Patriotic Party chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey regarding his purchase of a state property he previously occupied. The ruling has been condemned by the plaintiffs who have served notice they will use the law to reverse the decision. Deputy Sports Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah who together with Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa sued Jake in 2008 with, said if the ruling is allowed to stay, government will not have any state property to call its own in the next couple of years. The court said the two failed to prove their allegations of abuse of office, corruption and conflict of interest against Mr Obetsebi Lamptey. However, Madam Florence Dennis argued it was time to consider issues not only on the basis of legality but also on morality. She added that procedures that enable public servants and politicians to acquire state properties should be made transparent and broadened to cover the larger society in order to prevent abuse and suspicion.
