Authorities at the Power Generation Station of the Volta River Authority at Akosombo, have on Tuesday announced a 247.45ft as the new level of water in the dam.On Monday, 17th September 2007, the level was 246.95ft.The dam has a maximum operating level of 278ft, however the water level fell persistently over the past several months, dropping critically below the minimum level of 240ft, and forcing the nation into a load shedding management programme.Persistent rains in the northern parts of the country in recent times have ensured gradual flow of water into the dam and an encouraging rise in the level.Meanwhile the Ghana Meteorological Agency has predicted more rains between now and October in the three northern regions of Upper East, Upper West and Northern. Those areas have seen destructive floods following torrential rains that swept homes, farmlands and human lives.
