The New Patriotic Party Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey who is at the center of a tussle over the purchase of a bungalow at No.2 Mungo Street, Ridge says that government’s decision not to hand over the property to him undermines the rule of law.
The government on Thursday issued a statement explaining the decision that they would no longer sell the property to Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey is in the supreme interest of the people of Ghana. This follows what it described as ‘immoral’ acquisition of the property by the NPP Chairman.
Reacting to the new development, Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey in an interview with Joy News said the supreme interest of the people of Ghana is rather the obedience of the rule of law.
He further said the government decision to set aside the ruling by the Supreme Court is sending bad signals to people with whom the country want to do business with.
According to Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey, the government had three and half years to submit whatever evidence of aspect of the sale that was illegal it had but was unable to do so therefore the decision cabinet arrived at on Thursday is not only strange but sad.
The Supreme Court in a 6:3 majority verdict Tuesday dismissed a suit by two deputy ministers challenging Jake's acquisition of the property situated at No. 2 Mungo Street, Ridge.
Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah and the Deputy Sports Minister Dr Omane Boamah sued the NPP Chair for buying a government bungalow he occupied as a Minister of Tourism.
