Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a deputy Minister of Information, and also one of the plaintiffs in the Jake Obetsebi Lamptey’s bungalow case, has said cabinet’s decision not to give the bungalow to the NPP chairman is a welcoming news. In an interview with Joy News, Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa said “We have been reminded by this cabinet decision that there is still conscience, morality in this nation and that there are some public officers who would want to be on the side of morality and many Ghanaians who are appalled by the conduct of Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey”. The deputy Minister said that the decision of Cabinet which was chaired by President Mills does not however reverse the judgment of the Supreme Court, saying Jake's action was a bad precedence that must be expunged from the law books. Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa said irrespective of the decision arrived at by cabinet on Thursday, they (Dr. Omane Boamah and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa) will still pursue a judicial review of the Supreme Court ruling to ensure the right thing is done. The deputy Minister of Information dismissed as ‘farfetched’ speculations that President Mills can be impeached on the account of the cabinet’s decision to hold on to the controversial bungalow situated at the No.2 Mungo Street, Ridge, Accra. According to Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa, he is optimistic that when the issue is subjected to public opinion majority of Ghanaians will be overwhelmingly in favour of President Mills and not Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey. Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Deputy Sports Minister Dr Omane Boamah sued the NPP Chair for buying a government bungalow he occupied as a Minister of Tourism. They accused the NPP Chair of abusing his office by grabbing a public property for his personal aggrandizement and prayed the court to stop any attempt by Jake Obetsebi Lamptey to acquire the property. But by a 6-3 majority decision, the Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled in favour of the NPP Chairman.
