The Ghana Medical Association is lamenting what it says are grievous distortions in their salaries ever since they were migrated onto the Single Spine Salary Structure in January. The association is even more disconcerted that government and other relevant stakeholders have failed to take steps to resolve matter, despite many protestations. At the end of the 3rd National Executive Council Meeting, the association minced no words in voicing their grievances and threatened to advice themselves if the relevant stakeholders fail to resolve their grievances.President of the association, Dr Opoku Adusei told Joy News’ Nana Agyei Essuman their salary has been erratic ever since the migration was made.“I don’t know my salary. Most doctors and health workers don’t know their salaries. It is so erratic. Last month some health workers received four Ghana Cedis. Some received 18 Ghana Cedis. They always blame a computer that sits somewhere but as we all know computer is garbage in garbage out."He said the stakeholders, particularly the Controller and Accountant General’s Department must sit up to avoid needless industrial unrest.“There are now modern gadgets that we need to create a proper salary administration,” he said. The association said they will be petitioning President John Mills as well as the Labour Commission over their grievances and after two weeks they will take action if the distortions are not resolved. It is not however clear if they will announce another strike. The association on October 7 last year announced a nationwide strike following delays in migrating them onto the SSSS.The strike lasted well over two weeks and was called off after persistent appeals by civil society organizations and a negotiation by government.
