Members of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Alumni Association have called on government and other stakeholders to help resolve the issue of graduate unemployment. The formation of the KNUST Alumni Association according to its president Tony Danklu, is aimed at addressing the graduate unemployment situation in the country. Speaking at the launch of the 7th Biennial Congress of the KNUST Alumni Association at Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Mr. Danklu, expressed worry that every year thousands of graduates pass out to struggle for opportunities in the job market. According to him, the Alumni Association exists primarily to reach back to the Universities and ensure that the University delivers its core mandate. The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi in a speech read on his behalf said the NDC government is committed to its principles of good governance by providing job opportunities for the people. He also encouraged graduates to take up the challenge of establishing their own businesses to effectively and efficiently deal with graduate unemployment in the country. The KNUST Alumni Association was formed in 1980. University students who complete their respective programmes often find themselves without jobs partly because they are not putting into practice what they have learnt. The 7th Biennial Congress of the KNUST Alumni Association is under the theme “Reducing unemployment, the role of technocrats”.
