Students at the Kumasi Polytechnic have petitioned President Mills to, as a matter of urgency, intervene and get their striking teachers back to the lecture theatres. The teachers have been on strike for over a week now protesting delays in the payment of their revised salaries under the new pay policy. The Fair Wages Commission, Ministry of Education and the National Labour Commission have described the strike as illegal but the teachers insist they won’t resume work until the monies hit their accounts. On Tuesday, the students of the Kumasi polytechnic demonstrated and presented a petition to the President through the Ashanti Regional Ministry on the matter. Spokesperson, Prince Ohene Appiah said they need to get the requisite knowledge in order to help the nation in the future but feared the constant strike by their teachers will hamper that dream. He blamed government for not giving the same attention to their teachers as it gives to their counterparts in the university and warned the students will be on the streets on Friday if nothing positive comes out from the government.
