The striking Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana are struggling to maintain a united front, as their boycott of the lecture halls enters its third week.
POTAG embarked on the action in protest of what they say were deliberate delays by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to migrate their members onto the Single Spine Salary Structure, as agreed upon by the two parties in an earlier meeting after the group had called off an initial strike.
The General Secretary of POTAG, Oswald Atiga is said to have resigned from his position following a heated argument with some members over the strike.
According to the spokesperson of the Concerned Polytechnic Teachers Association of the Takoradi Polytechnic, Michael Appiah, they were told Oswald Atiga had tendered in his resignation letter to the leadership of POTAG.
The group said the purported action of the General Secretary led them to issue a statement to the leadership of POTAG urging them to remain resolute in their demand for their immediate migration onto the new pay policy.
They suspect the action of their scribe was a result of a hidden hand trying to break the group’s resolve and force them to abandon the strike.
Meanwhile, Mr. Oswald Atiga has denied reports that he tendered in his resignation to the leadership of the group.
He admitted in an interview on Joy FM that although tempers flared at the said meeting, he did not resign as it has been speculated.
He attributed his alleged resignation to “rumour mongers” who are bent on creating division among the group.
Nonetheless, he said the group remains resolute in pressing home their demands from the FWSC.
