Ayikoi Otoo, lawyer for embattled Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong, has jumped to the defense of his client who descended heavily on Central regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe who had attributed the recent ethnic clashes at Ekumfi Nyarkwa to the NPP firebrand’s infamous ethnocentric statements. Two ethnic groups at Ekumfi Nyarkwa in the Central Region clashed after a 60-year-old man, who is the head of the royal family of the village, Nana Eguase was found buried on his without his head.Suspecting a settler community of being behind the killing, the indigenous community attacked the settlers. After touring the feuding communities, the Central Regional Minister accused the Assin North MP of inciting the two ethnic groups against each other. The accusation from Minister did not go down well with Kennedy Agyapong who in an interview with Adom FM, Friday responded in an even greater measure to the Regional minister. The NPP firebrand in the interview granted Adom FM, accused Ama Benyiwa Doe of failing to bring developmental projects to the Central region and was therefore trying to score cheap political points by capitalising on his comments which have been described as distasteful. The outburst from the NPP MP raised concerns as to whether his actions on Friday contravened the bail bond he signed to be on good behavior after his arrest in April.Former Attorney General, Ayikoi Otoo who is counsel for the MP speaking in an interview with Joy News on MultiTV, said his client acted in a proper manner in responding to what he (Ken Agyapong) felt was targeted at attacking his personality. He said the statements Mr. Agyapong made were mere vituperations, adding that Mr. Agyapong was provoked beyond measure.Although he confessed not knowing what constitutes “bond of good behavior” that his client signed, he added the statement made by the Central Regional Minister was in bad taste and must not be condoned under any circumstance.
