Authorities of Kumasi Polytechnic have shut down the school indefinitely over the protracted strike by lecturers. The students should have sat their end of semester exams and vacated the campus by Saturday but their teachers have however stayed away from the classroom for the past three weeks, refusing to return until revised salaries due them under the single spine pay policy reflect in their bank balances. Rector of the Polytechnic, Professor Nicholas Nsowah Nuamah says the closure is the best option for now. “The students have been idle for more thatn two weeks now and per the statutes when students are idle for over 21-days you have to close the polytechnic,” he said.” In a related development, The Ghana Association of University Administrators has also declared an indefinite strike over the migration of its members onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS). President of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology branch, Solomon Panford, says their decision stems from what he describes as the authorities’ unwillingness to put them on the spine.
