Garage operators and mechanics at Kokompe in Takoradi in the Western Region have vowed to resist attempts by police to stop them from demonstrating to draw attention to bad roads there.
They took the streets this afternoon blocking the roads with various items.
Their action, described by the authorities as illegal, turned chaotic when they defied orders from the police to dismantle the roadblocks.
But they stood their ground, daring the police to confront them.
Their wish was granted when the police fired teargas to disperse them.
The demonstrators are however adamant and have vowed to continue with their demonstrations until their concerns are addressed.
Chairman of the Western Regional Ghana Garage Operators Association Joseph Oppong Sarpong, explained the decision to block the roads was due to failed promises from the authorities to fix them.
He said for three years they have drawn the attention of powers that be but nothing has been done about their plight.
He hoped the demonstration will achieve the right results.
