The youth of Sepe Timpong, a suburb of Kumasi are angry with the Police for killing a man over suspicions he is an armed robber.
The police say the 26-year old, Kwaku Asante was killed during a swoop on suspected criminals at their hideout during the weekend but the youth are disputing the claim.
A brother of the deceased Prince Osei told Luv FM the police were called by the Assembly member of the area to protect them against an attack from rival youth at Aboabo but police rather shot Kwaku Asante during indiscriminate firing.
He explained the youth of Aboabo and Sawaba suburbs were engaged in a violent confrontation when the Buffalo Unit of the police service was called in to save the situation.
According to him, on their way to the troubled spot, the police saw a group of youth at Sepe and without any questions of provocation, opened fire dispersing the young men and women who run for their lives.
Mr Osei said a few people stayed with the Assemblyman who pleaded in vain to the police to stop shooting.
He claimed the deceased was shot in the thigh and he limped and hugged the Assemblyman, Kofi Anokye, in pain but the police dragged him away and shot him in the stomach killing him instantly.
They then dumped the body in their pickup and sped off, he stated.
Deputy Public Relations officer of the Ashanti Region Police Command, Godwin Ahianyo is, however, challenging the youth to produce evidence to back their claims against the police.
He claims the deceased had a weapon tacked in his jeans trouser.
