The Chief Executive Officer of the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), has announced a school in agriculture project which the authority will implement.According to Alhaji Gilbert Seidu Iddi, the aim of the programme is to support schools in subsistence farming so they will not depend on the government to provide food for them.He made the announcement during the launching of SADA agriculture input programme (tractor services) in Wa.He said they will start the programme on a pilot scheme to see the challenges before implementing the programme in all senior high schools next year."We think that we can reduce the burden of government on the school feeding programme if we able to support schools to establish their own farms.We are in contact with some of the school heads for them to identify farmlands that they have; opportunities that they have by way of technical support within the school itself so that we can start a farm of say 20 to 50acres," Alhaji Iddi added.He stated that SADA has a life span of 20 years adding that it’s programmes are not intended to duplicate or substitute programmes that are already in place but are rather intended to add on to programmes that are already in place.He supported earlier call made by the Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani to the people to delink politics from SADA saying it is non partisan.The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani stated that the vision of SADA of a ‘‘Forested and green north by 2030’’ defines the parameters of a major paradigm shift in stimulating economic growth and sustainable development by ensuring that small-holder families and poor farmers develop a long term stake in agriculture.He advised the people to embrace the concept and support it to the fullest to build assets of farmers so that they can modernize agriculture by themselves.Ambassador Sulemani said the successful implementation of SADA programmes will contribute significantly to increase incomes and reduce poverty and deprivations in its operational area and set the Northern Savanna Ecological Zone on a full flight towards accelerated and sustainable development.A board member of SADA Madam Blandina Batir appealed to the people to remain peaceful in order for them to enjoy the full benefits of SADA.
