The District Chief Executive for Jomoro, Mr Sylvester Dadie, has appealed to fishermen to apply approved fishing methods to avoid depletion of fish stock.
Mr Dadie gave the advice when he presented 16 40 horse-power Yamaha outboard motors to fishermen in the Jomoro district on behalf of the government.
He said the machines, sold to the fishermen at 4,900 Ghana Cedis each, had been subsidised by the government in fulfillment of its campaign promise to the fishermen to help improve the fishing industry.
Mr Paul Tayi Ndah, Chairman of the Half Assini Land Beach “A” Group who received the machines on behalf of the fishermen, expressed gratitude to the government.
He also commended the government for its contribution towards improving the fishing industry, adding the machines are being sold between 7,422.00 and 8,200.00 Ghana cedis in the open market.
According to Mr Ndah the machines had arrived at the right time as they are about to enter the main fishing season.
He commended government for regular supply of pre-mixed petrol to fishermen in the area.
