Mourners were treated to tunes from local gospel artists and other groups in memory of the late President John Evans Atta Mills during the second night of the choral vigil at the forecourt of the State House. The solemn atmosphere saw mourners dancing to performance from the Dansoman Youth Choir, Daughters of Glories Jesus, Florence Obinim, the Baptist Mass Choir, Tagoe Sisters, the Charismatic Youth Choir and the African Youth Choir. The event saw mourners dressed in the usual mourning clothes of black and red singing along, believing that the late President was resting with the almighty God. Three distinguished Ghanaian Professors, Atukwei Okai, a renowned poet, Emeritus Joseph Hanson Kwabena Nketia, renowned Musicologist and Kofi Anyidoho, an African Poet, recited poems in memory of the late President Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare, founder of Word Miracle Church, in a tribute, said the President used to invite him to study the Bible with him. He said “in life there were two kinds of death, evil and righteous and the late President opted for the righteous one.” He described the late President as someone who sacrificed for the development of the country even till his death and that his works would live on. Bishop Agyin-Asare said death was inevitable and “death comes to all” and asked “are we prepared to die and when we die where will we go.” He prayed on behalf of Ghanaians and assured them that “the Good Lord was in control of affairs of the country.” Dr Kwabena Adjei, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, said the late President was a leader who was committed to serving the people for national development. He said the late President Mills has brought dignity into governance and this must pose a challenge to all politicians who want to serve the people in various capacities. He called on politicians to exhibit humility, peace, compassion and tolerance as demonstrated by the late President Mills. Dignities present at the choral vigil included Ministers of State, the Clergy, party executives, the diplomatic corps, Parliamentarians, leadership of Parliament, the Chief Justice, musicians and other invited guests.
