A delegation from the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) has paid tribute to the late President Mills at the State House in Accra. They were led by Board Chairman of the Board, Alhassan Andani, Chief Executive Officer Alhaji Seidu Iddi and some board members including Chief Musah B. Adam, M.S Vicky Okai and Mr. Akwasi Addae-Boahene. The delegation filed past the mortal remains of the former President and later met with Professor Mills’ family to console them. The Board Chairman, Alhassan Andani in an interview with Journalists described Professor Mills as a visionary leader who served his country and appealed to Ghanaians to emulate the leadership skills of the late President. He said “President Mills has always stood for peace and Ghanaians must do well to protect the President’s legacy. The Chief Executive Officer of SADA, Alhaji Seidu Iddi eulogized President Mills and stressed how important the activities of SADA meant to him. He said the Authority is committed to ensuring that projects and plans designed for the program are well implemented in memory of the late President. SADA was established by an Act of Parliament Act (805) of 2010 during the late President’s tenure to bridge the development gap between the Northern Savannah Ecological Zone (NSEZ) and the rest of Ghana. NSEZ is considered a food basket of the country comparatively underprivileged with low income. Government in the 2012 budget released an amount of GH¢30 million to the Authority bringing to GH¢60 million, the total government budgetary releases to the authority since its establishment in 2010. The government had already paid the seed capital of GH¢200 million in fulfillment of a pledge made by the then President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, and the government to transform the economy of the northern part of the country through infrastructural investments.
