After failing to qualify for the just ended Olympic Games in London, the Ghana Swimming Association seems to be putting its house in order ahead of Rio 2012.The organization organized an open championship at the University of Ghana swimming pool to spot talents and groom them for subsequent competitions outside the country.“This championship forms part of our association long term plan but in the short term we are organizing this to select the best swimmers for the African championship in Kenya and also to unearth more talents for national assignment. Our long time plan is Rio 2016,” said Williams Kyei who is General Sectary for the swimming Association.Present at the occasion were the president of Ghana Swimming Association, Theophilus Edzie Wilson, his Vice Hon. Kojo Adu Asare who is also Member of Parliament for Adenta constituency, families and friends of the swimmers and the general public. Also present were other officials of the National swimming Association. The swimmers who participated came from all over the country in a bid to justify their inclusion to the Ghanaian swimming team. Noticeably, there were two disable swimmers who also participated.“I believe in myself and I want to raise awareness that we disable people can also swim and government should help us qualify for the Paralympics” said Timothy Mohammed one of the double disable amputee. The atmosphere at the university of Ghana pool was full of fun and excitement as swimming fans, supporters and parents cheered their children on.
