President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the upcoming elections are the most peaceful in the history of the country.He was addressing thousands of Muslims who gathered at the Independence Square, Sunday for a special prayer on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.According to the President, he would do everything within his power to ensure Prof Mills’ wish of holding the most peaceful elections comes to pass.President Mahama praised the leadership of the Muslim Community for their immense support during the funeral of the late President John Atta Mills. According to him, the support received from the Muslims was commendable.He added that as Ghana goes to the polls, there is the need to guard jealously the peace the country currently enjoys. He also admonished the inhabitants of the Zongo communities not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence by politicians.President Mahama stated that Islam, just like other religions, teaches peace and love, hence youths of the Zongo communities across the country should reject politicians who try to recruit them as thugs to foment trouble.The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, who led the special prayers also called on all, particularly Muslims, to ensure that the country remains peaceful.Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu added that Ghana is relatively the most peaceful country in the sub-region due to the blessings Allah continues to shower on the nation.He said it is the duty of every citizen to ensure that the peace the country enjoys is preserved for the younger generations as well.The event was also witnessed by former Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Collins Dauda, Chief of Staff, J.H. Martey Newman, government functionaries and some members of the Diplomatic Corps.
