England manager Roy Hodgson has called Raheem Sterling into his England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. The news comes hours after Jamaica admitted they planned to hold talks with the Liverpool starlet about representing them.
Tottenham’s Jake Livermore and Adam Lallana of Southampton have also been added after Theo Walcott withdrew and Daniel Sturridge missed training on Monday.Whether the call up is to allay fears that Jamaica could lure Sterling into representing them at international level or because of a succession of injuries to current squad members, the decision to bring the Liverpool youngster into the full England senior team fold is a wise one.Roy Hodgson seems more than open to bringing in young talent and offering them a chance to shine and the former Liverpool boss will have been impressed by the maturity shown by the 17 year old this term.Raheem Sterling arrived at Liverpool from QPR in February 2010 and had impressed greatly win youth and reserve sides and has started the club’s last two Premier League fixtures against Man City and Arsenal.
