It is likely Member of Parliament for Atwima-Mponua, Isaac Kwame Asiamah will chair the next Public Accounts Committee hearing on the controversial judgement debt paid to business man Alfred Woyome. Substantive chair, Kan Dapaah dropped the hint, Wednesday in the preliminary hearing of the case. Lawyers for Woyome raised issues of subjudice and likely questions of bias against the chairman of the committee. He posited that the issues to be deliberated on the committee are the same issues being dealt with in court and suspected the hearing will interfere in fair administration of justice. He also argued that Woyome is in court because the cabinet under Kufuor abrogated the bid legitimately won by Woyome’s company, an action which warranted the payment of the judgement debt. He averred that Kan Dapaah as well as another Member on the Committee, Hackman Owusu Agyemang were members on that same cabinet and suspects there could be likely bias, if the two are allowed to sit on the committee hearing. Members on the committee for several minutes, and in obvious partisan positions argued back and forth why they believed the case should not be heard. The Chairman of the Committee Kan Dapaah invoked his powers after citing various articles and precedents and ruled the case will heard by the committee. On the likely issue about bias, Kan Dapaah said he was ready to step aside if it is the case that the witnesses believe he will be compromised. He said his deputy chair on the committee, Agyeman Manu had also been cited in the controversial judgment debt case which rules him out of the next hearing. Kan Dapaah said Isaac Asiamah will chair the committee on the controversial Woyome case when it meets again. They are however yet to discuss the modalities of the next hearing.
