Special aide to embattled business man Alfred Woyome has accused members of the Public Accounts Committee of failing the country.Kwame Tawia said his boss made himself available to the committee and all the committee members did was to “disgrace themselves”.He stated emphatically that Woyome will not again appear before the committee after members wasted a good opportunity to cross examine him.Woyome’s presence at the Committee, Wednesday, was no less controversial than the circumstances surrounding his invitation to the committee.He had turned down two previous invitations on grounds of a possible subjudice, forcing the chairman of the Committee to issue a threat that he will have the IGP to arrest and drag him before the committee.He finally appeared before the committee but his lawyers stuck to his preliminary objections of subjudice and also raised issues about bias against the chairman Kan Dapaah and a member Hackman Owusu Agyemang.The lawyer Osafo Buabeng contended the two men were part of the cabinet under the Kufuor regime that abrogated the bid process involving Mr Woyome and which led to the judgement debt being paid to the business man.He is convinced his client will not have a fair hearing if the two men were to sit on the hearing.The comments by Buabeng provoked divergent opinions from the members of the committee who were obviously divided along party lines.The Majority side of the committee would rather have the case either suspended of heard after the court hearings but those on the minority side insisted the case must be heard because Parliament is a master of its own rules.Chairman of the Committee Kan Dapaah exercised his discretionary power and ruled that the case will be heard, the court cases notwithstanding.He also, together with deputy chairman, Agyemang Manu, who has also been linked to the Woyome controversy, recused themselves from a future hearing involving the business man.Kan Dapaah said MP for Atwima-Mponua, Isaac Asiamah will chair the next hearing of the committee involving Alfred Woyome.But Special Aide to Woyome said the embattled business man will not appear before the committee again.“We gave them the best opportunity today and they failed; they failed the whole country and disgraced themselves. What are we going to appear before them again for,” he stated.Kwame Tawia also dismissed claims that his boss succumbed to pressure and threats from the PAC before appearing.
