More than 300 widows in the Central Region on Saturday converged at the Jubilee Park in Cape Coast to pray for the peace of God to prevail in the country before, during and after the December general elections.The prayer dubbed, “Peace prayer conference” was organised by King David Widow’s Foundation, an NGO, which had registered about 1,500 widows from 40 communities in the Twifo AttiMorkwa, Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, Assin North and South Districts in the Region.The Foundation takes care of, mobilizes and empowers the women economically with funding from donations from philanthropists.Reverend David Blake Arthur, Pastor in charge of the Foundation, said it was imperative that all Ghanaians pray to avert any evil plan against the nation.He advised the widows to put their total trust in God in all their endeavours adding that, they should take good care of their children by investing in their education.Mr. Lewis Gyan, General Secretary of the Foundation, said the prayers would be in vain if politicians and their followers as well as the general public do not play their part in ensuring peaceful and successful elections.He pleaded with politicians to place the peace of the country first and urged policy makers to formulate policies to address the plight of widows.The Foundation will soon expand its operations to other regions where Gari and Palm nut processing plants will be established to train members to undertake small scale business ventures.It will also conduct adult literacy programmes for them to further their education.
