The mother of Simms Adu Gyamfi, one of the victims of last night’s Twedie shooting, has reached out to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu to intervene in the case of her son’s killing, which she contends was motivated by a chieftaincy dispute.Gyamfi and his wife, Yaa Kyerewaa, were returning home from an adjoining town when they were shot by unknown assailants. Eyewitnesses say the man died on the spot while his wife died later. The couple were said to have played a key role in deciding a successor to the local stool.Police in Asokwa have declined comments except to say they are investigating the case and that they are considering all suspects.Gyamfi’s mother requested the Asantehene’s attention as she said that the local police did nothing to respond to death threats against the men in her family, a claim that the police deny. She added that the gunmen killed her son’s wife so that she could not testify as a witness.Gyamfi’s brother said he was unsure whether the murders were linked to the Chieftaincy dispute.Luv FM’s Erastus Donkor said the townspeople were in a state of shock when he visited the community. He reported that the stool has been vacant for about a year following the death of its previous holder and that Akyempemhene Nana Oheneba Adusei Poku had been presiding over the process to select a new chief.
