Samsung Ghana, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, is funding the construction of a bore hole for the people of Osudoku, a buruli-ulcer endemic community in the Amansie Central District of Ashanti region.The project, estimated at a cost of 15 thousand dollars when completed will serve residents of the community and its hamlets whose only source of drinking water- River Oda- has been polluted and muddied by galamsey operators.Increased galamsey activities have left residents with no source of livelihood.Some residents have resorted to fetching stagnant water from uncovered galamsey pits for domestic use, including bathing washing, bathing and even cooking.The gesture is part of efforts by Samsung Ghana in making significant contributions to the development of communities it operates in.Marketing Manager for Consumer Electronics, Richard Nunekpeku, said at a sod-cutting ceremony the provision of portable water will save many lives."Over the years, we've pursued several corporate social responsibility outreach programs throughout Africa and are consistently on the look out for opportunities to enrich lives and support communities in Africa".The occasion which coincided with its week celebrations, saw Samsung also donate 40-inch colour television set and a refrigerator which works up to three hours when there is no power to the local clinic with a promise to do more to improve lives there.According to Mr. Nunekpeku, Samsung Ghana with the support of its partners has lined-up several projects to help change lives of Ghanaians."Samsung as a company is not only in the business of providing leading edge technology solutions for making our lives easier as consumers; it is also our passion to also make significant contribution to the development of communities in which we operate", he said.Samsung hopes to impact positively on over 5 million lives by 2015 through various corporate social responsibility initiatives and other avenues.
