As the world marks International Peace Day, one million people were expected to march for peace in the country but a few thousands of people turned up for the peace march. This brings to question whether Ghanaians love to talk about peace and not work at it. The march started from the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange through Ridge to the Independence Square. He said some people carried placards some of which appealed for peace before, during and after the December polls. Participants of the peach march included vice-president Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman Jake Obetsebi Lamptey. On his part, vice-president Amissah-Arthur urged all Ghanaians not to compromise the peace in the country for their parochial interest. “I pray that all of us will ensure this country will continue to be the oasis of peace in this sub-region” he said. Kojo Frimpong, organizer of the peace march underscored the need to drum home the need for peace during and after elections 2012. He was however not perturbed about the turn-out adding that they have achieved something refreshing for the country. “Yes we might not have gotten a million people but the spirit in which this match was taken was incredible." Meanwhile, the West Africa Network for Peace building WANEP is calling on Africans especially the sub-region to embrace peace as the world marks International Day for Peace . WANEP says this occasion should remind everyone of the importance of peace. National coordinator Justine Bayor says WANEP on its part is doing everything possible to solidify peace in Ghana.
