Chief Executives in Upper East Regional communities who have suffered damages resulting from this year’s seasonal floods, are considering long-term solutions to flooding problems.In Bolgatanga, where 19 communities were affected and 300 homes washed away, District Chief Executive Edward Ayagle lamented that while floods have subsided, order has not been restored because so many people remain displaced.He has appealed to people with homes in low lying areas to move so that the areas can be converted into drainage systems that will feed into a river.In Garu Timpani, Municipal Chief Executive David Adakudugu reported the collapse of four schools as well as 1400 people, 700 homes, and 700 acres of farmland affected by the floods.Like Ayagle, he has pledged to pursue long-term a solution to the flooding problem, and he intends to review the annual budget for more immediate emergency relief funds.
