Following a report on Adom News about the plight of some seventeen (17) male and female instructors of the Ghana Immigration Training School and Academy at Assin Fosu, a reliable source has said the Directorate of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has initiated moves to resolve the problem.
Adom News reported that nine male and eight female instructors at the GIS Training School had been sleeping in a single room partitioned into two with plywood on campus and sharing one toilet and bathroom for years now.
The instructors sleep on mattresses on the floor and all their belongings are in the open so they have no privacy whatsoever.
They also told Adom News they have also not received their monthly salaries for the past 10 months, and some of them have borrowed between GHC1,200 and GHC3,0000 to make ends meet, as they wait for their salaries.
Meanwhile the Commanding Officer of the School, Justice Amevor lives in a three-bedroom self-contained apartment on campus, while the Commandant of the Academy, Isaac Klotey also lives in a comfortable self-contained apartment in town.
The students, who are being trained by the instructors, also live in comfortable hostels on campus.
The instructors therefore appealed to the Acting Director of Immigration, DCOP Dr. Peter Wiredu to repost them to other stations because the school is unable to accommodate them.
But since Adom News reported the matter, the Commanding Officer and the Commandant of the school have been invited to Accra to answer for the protracted deplorable conditions the instructors have been living in under their watch.
In their absence, a committee has also been set up from Accra to go look into the real situation on the ground and report to back to the headquarters in Accra.
Meanwhile, the remaining authorities in the school held a meeting with the instructors on Wednesday morning and tried to find out which of them spoke with Adom News about their plight.
This was in spite of the fact that an official of the school had earlier admitted to the challenges and said they had found three apartments for the instructors and were waiting for government to provide funds for them.
The question pundits are therefore asking is, if an official of the school has admitted to the existence of the problem, should they not rather concentrate on fixing it instead of looking for who spoke with Adom News?
Adom News is closely following the progress of the matter.
