The African Peer Review Mechanism has established 170 oversight committees across the country with the aim of assessing governance institutions and service delivery at the local level.This was revealed by a member of the governing council of the APRM and Bishop of the Wa Diocese, Most Reverend Dr. Paul Bemile at a validation workshop on the draft APRM Governance report for the Wa Municipal Assembly in Wa.He said the committees will interact and collect information at the local level which will assist both the Assembly and the Central Government to know the status of governance and to increase participation and inclusiveness at all levels.Most reverend Bemile said the assemblies together with the citizens will then seek ways and strategies to address the challenges identified.He noted that the work of the Committee will be non-partisan, stating that APRM is interested in good governance and efficient service delivery and not in blame games.The APRM Governing Council Member used the opportunity to admonish all and sundry to be circumspect in their utterances.‘‘[We should watch] the way we talk, the way we insult one another and the way we denigrate one another especially as we approach the elections. “Let’s remind ourselves that Ghana is the only country that we have and Ghana should be first before political parties,’’ he added.The Upper West Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Ben Banye also re-echoed the thoughts of the APRM Governing council member saying that people should not sow seeds of discord as the country approaches the elections.Mr. Banye appealed to all who are involved in the political process, especially officials of the Electoral Commission not to allow themselves to be manipulated by politicians for their own political interest but ensure that the right thing is done for successful polls in December.
