Majority MPs in parliament have described the proposal by parliament’s subsidiary legislative committee for an annulment of the much buttered Constitutional Instrument (CI) 78 as misleading and exaggerated. The house is expected to pass a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote on the CI 78 Monday before it matures Tuesday. But even before that, the committee by a majority decision says the house should not approve the controversial CI 78. It recommends that rather, it should be returned to the Electoral Commission due to the omission of 34 electoral areas from the document. The report also states that the CI 78 introduces new electoral areas unknown previously. But, NDC MP for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu says the Committee Chairman, Kwame Osei-Prempeh is mistaking CI 78 for the conduct of District Assembly elections. According to him, the mistakes that the minority have cited in the controversial CI minor errors such as spelling mistakes and not as grave as they would want Ghanaians to believe. The minority MPs will need two-thirds majority of MPs before it can annul the CI 78. Anything short of that means the CI will be passed into law.
