The ruling NDC is promising to ensure full implementation of free basic education if voters retain it in power in the December elections.Launching its 2012 manifesto in Ho Thursday, President John Mahama assured an NDC administration will expand access, build 200 new Senior High Schools and 10 training colleges to produce the teachers needed to drive its education expansion program. He said while the party is not against free education it will not put the cart before the horse.President Mahama noted if there are additional resources it is best to use it in creating access and equity across all levels of education in the country.Given the policy the NDC will implement, the president assured basic education will be made truly free by 2016.He said the government will liaise with the Ghana National Association of Teachers to find out how best to implement the compulsory aspect of education as enshrined in the country’s constitution. He said government would rather increase the amount of subsidies being paid by parents for their wards in the SHS levels. These measures he noted will secure the foundation of the youth in terms of their educational development.
