The Ghana Beach Soccer Association (GBSA) has confirmed the kick-off to the 2012-13 beach soccer league season.
Twenty teams will be in action as West Africa's only double tier beach soccer competitions get underway on Saturday 27th October 2012.
According to the GBSA, the association needed ample time to finalize a sponsorship package for the Division 1 league which last season was sponsored by South African based company, Clementia Contacto.
Following a successful maiden season, the GBSA and Cal Bank renewed their sponsorship deal for another season with an improved package from Ghana's fastest growing bank. Voltic Mineral which is long term partner-sponsor of Beach Soccer, have also confirmed extension of sponsorship.
The association will head to congress on Saturday the 13th of October, to elect new officers before a gala to select three new teams to join the Division 1 League.
In a related development, the GBSA has opened registration of new beach soccer clubs to join the existing twenty teams.
There are three available spots to be filled in the Division 1 League which would be decided in a knockout tournament at the La Beach Soccer Arena on Saturday 20th October.
The defending Division 1 champions Teshie United will play against league winners Keta Sunset in the Championship following promotion last season.
Other clubs expected to mount a serious title challenge are Ada Assurance, Havedzi Warriors from Keta and La-Yoca.
The President of the GBSA Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has assured a professional, competitive and exciting league.
He says the GBSA will soon announce a new marketing and sponsorship partner and then unveil the identity of a new sponsor in the coming days. As to the identity of the sponsors, the GBSA President declined to give the slightest hint.
