Teachers at Jakiti Presbyterian Junior High School near Akosombo in the Asuogyaman District have abandoned the classrooms following an alleged assault on one of their colleagues by some youth of the area.
Fergusson Ayibor was attacked on Sunday night while he was on his motorbike from Ajina where he resides, to Jakiti to buy medicine for his ailing daughter.
He was severely beaten by the youth who had mistook him for an armed robber but the timely intervention by a colleague, saved him from being lynched and rushed him to a hospital.
The youth had mounted a check point on the road leading to the Jakiti Township following reports of series of robbery incidents in the town.
Assembly member for the area Edith Amfo confirmed the incident to Myjoyonline.com on Wednesday but expressed worry at the relaxed approach the case had received from the Ajina police after it was reported to them.
This is the second time a teacher has been attacked in the area, after a newly posted female teacher Sandra Nsiah was also attacked in a similar manner by the youth. Headmaster of the school Ohene Agyakum said the matter had been reported to the circuit for further action.
The teachers have refused to go to the classrooms to teach since Monday, demanding a decision to be taken on the culprits.
