Barely a week after the devastating fire that ravaged the Mallam market which destroyed properties running into several thousands of cedis, traders can heave a sigh of relieve as GA South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Authority has promised to reconstruct the market.
The Assemblies have therefore started clearing the rubles and structures in the market to pave way for reconstruction work to begin.
The promise which comes barely 48 hours after the disaster has been described as a timely intervention to alleviate the plight of the affected traders. The work, which is expected to be completed in weeks’ time, will bring the traders back to business at a time Christmas is fast approaching to enable them earn some income for the festivity.
Interestingly, when the excavation work was going on at the site, and the affected traders gathered in groups obviously discussing their loss, while scavengers busily seen competing for remnants.
