The people of Kalba in the Kalba-Tuna district of the Northern Region are yet to come to terms with the bizarre circumstances leading to the alleged shooting to death of a 35-year old farmer by his own father.
The deceased, Kofi Haaner was shot on his bed at night by the suspect, Njuary Haaner, who was allegedly enraged by the fact that the deceased had gone to Haaner’s brother to seek financial assistance to treat his sick wife after he the father had refused to give him the money.
The body of Kofi has since been deposited at the Bole hospital morgue awaiting autopsy while the father, Hanner is in the grips of the police.
According to the Northern Regional Police PRO, Ebenezer Tetteh, the incident occurred at about 10pm at Kalba on October 13, 2012.
He said residents in that community were still baffled over the matter.
Mr Tetteh said the deceased had been battling to find a cure for his wife’s protracted illness.
The officer indicated that after frantic efforts, the deceased travelled to a town called Safwi in the district where a native doctor asked him to bring some items including a goat to prepare concoction for the sick wife.
Kofi who had expended his resources turned to his father for support but was turned down because Haaner claimed he had no money to help him out.
The distraught son, Mr. Tetteh said, had to eventually go to his uncle, Kanyire Mbaase to help him out. When the father got wind of the decision by Kofi, he was incensed because according to him, the son had embarrassed him by his action. The two later engaged in a heated confrontation over the matter. Hours after that when Kofi retired to bed, the father picked his short gun and surreptitiously entered into the son’s room and shot him dead.
