Electricity consumers are demanding an immediate suspension of a programme to relocate all prepaid meters outside their premises.
The Electricity Company of Ghana is already replacing all postpaid meters nationwide and the new ones are being fixed on the nearest poles carrying high tension cables from which power is tapped to various homes.
But consumers are angry and are accusing the ECG of actions that will undermine their safety and security.
Some of those who are already using the facility also told Joy News they can hardly determine when they are running out of power because of the new location of the meters.
They accuse the ECG of taking its customers for granted and are demanding an immediate halt to the project.
Joy News’ Eric Ahianyo has been finding out more about these meters within the Greda Estates where the project is being implemented and reported that many residents are frustrated by the development.
“Who makes certain decisions in ECG concerning their customers; the owner of the house is responsible for that meter and everything that happens to it and yet EG mounts it on the road side which is a communal place that everybody passes,” Nutor Agbodza, a resident of Teshie Nungua Estates said.
