Pressure seems to be mounting on the Electricity Company of Ghana as its new metering system faces protests.Agitations among residents of Teshie, Tabora and other affected areas still persist. But officials will not speak to the media on the issue.After several hours of waiting at the premises of the Electricity Company of Ghana on Tuesday afternoon the Joy news team still couldn't get access to any official to speak on the new metering system introduced by the ECG.The Public Relations Officer for ECG whose name was only given as Gloria hanged up on the Joy news team when attempts were made to reach her on her personal phone, only to give an excuse later that she was in a meeting that was going to take the whole day.The head of the customer service department of the ECG, Dr. Smart Yeboah, who was said to be the best person to speak to had switched off his phone and so couldn't be reached.The new pre-paid metering system that started three months ago is still ongoing. With the old prepaid meters replaced, the new ones have been installed outside the homes of residents.One resident lamented that, “three months ago when we visited Teshie the situation was worse.”As it stands, the Electricity Company of Ghana is unwilling to speak to the issues and answer some of the questions on the minds of these residents.
